About

Zero2Cool®️ delivers ground-breaking, disruptive cooling and heating solutions for all environments, whether on- or off-grid, in static or mobile (transport) applications. Our technology represents a leap forward in performance and cost efficiency over the industry standard.

Target Applications

Optimised to work with existing diesel genset, gas turbine, hydrogen generators, or CCHP systems, as well as truck engines in refrigerated transportation, and directly using the exhaust heat to drive the cooling/heating process, our units are designed to provide a diverse range of businesses and facilities immediate reductions in operating cost, with minimal capital expenditure. Without the need for three-phase power or a cooling tower, our absorption chillers are easy to install and operate, being as close to “plug & play” as it is possible to get. Low maintenance costs and a long unit lifespan, together with remote control and monitoring capability — even in remote or difficult to access areas, or for mobile applications, whether for transport or temporary power — make our products a safe, secure, reliable investment.

The Cold Crunch and the role of Cooling in our Climate Emergency

Ever greater extremes of weather due to climate change will lead to ever greater demands for power for heating and cooling. According to the OECD and the International Energy Agency, the consequences of extreme heat will likely affect 75% of humanity over the next 30 years. As many as 4 billion people will require space cooling to mitigate these risks.

Of the 2.8 billion people already affected today, only 8% have access to cooling, compared to 90% in the USA or Japan. This means that energy use for space cooling will likely triple over this period, the equivalent of adding 10 new A/C units every second for the next 30 years, which is like adding the entire current annual usage of the USA, Europe and Japan all over again.

Food Waste – the Absence of Cold Chain in the Global South

The consequences of energy poverty in the developing world include losing as much as 50% of all fresh produce, because it cannot be kept cold, or there is no effective cold chain distribution; or being unable to preserve vital medicines and vaccines.

Coupled with an expanding population heading for 10 billion and a rising global demand for a better standard of living (for which electrification is a key component), we are heading for what the IEA calls “the coming Cold Crunch”.

  • The global impact of food waste is equivalent to 4.4 gigatons of CO2e a year.
  • If “food waste” were a country, it would be the third largest polluter after China and the US.
  • It is responsible for 8% of total anthropogenic GHG emissions, equivalent to the emissions of the global road transportation industry.
  • The current estimated global value of wasted food products is >$1 trillion, to which can be added a further $500 billion cost of GHG emissions from food waste (Source: UN FAO).

A Total Sustainable Solution

More and more industries are being impacted by climate change and consequent legislation. Zero2Cool®️ products can be integrated with existing energy-efficient technology, substantially reducing many of the environmental problems associated with conventional cooling systems. Our units are highly energy efficient, do not use HFCs or HFOs, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions — allowing your facility to meet otherwise unattainable environmental targets, or simply to be able to afford cooling for the first time.

Off-Grid, Micro Grids and Transportation

As new markets emerge, whether in off-grid and poorly grid-served regions, or increasingly in the deployment of micro grids around the world, addressing issues of resilience and an ever more stretched grid infrastructure, and demand for cooling increases, businesses need to invest in solutions which guarantee cost-efficiency and minimise environmental impact. Zero2Cool®️ units provide a transformational level of performance at low cost, helping to safeguard the future of your business and significantly reduce its environmental impact.

Applications

Refrigeration (storage)

With capacities of between 18 kW and 300 kW, and temperature ranges of 3C to 18C, we deliver cold storage solutions with zero fuel cost and zero CO2. Our chillers can be run off waste heat from any generator, including hydrogen, and also off direct fired heat, or biomass. We are actively working on solar solutions as well, such that our technology can be deployed in almost any situation.

Refrigeration (transport)

With cooling capacities from 4 kW to 7 kW, designed for refrigeration of trailers up to 40/50’, and temperature ranges from 3-18C, our thermal compressor TRUs run off the engine exhaust gases, providing 100% cost- and CO2-free refrigeration. Back-up power from gas and solar is also provided, making the unit entirely self-contained.

Air Conditioning

Zero2Cool offers highly efficient, reliable cooling and heating units designed to fit easily into any existing air conditioning system. Both our stand-alone and externally powered models deliver a significant reduction in cooling emissions and energy costs at far higher ambient temperatures than other solutions.
